Dept: 120 Sworn full-time positions, 6 Reserves (35 authorized) all current reserves are POST level I. Reserve officers are not compensated for any hours. The City provides all uniforms and safety equipment except footwear, replacement is on the quartermaster system.
Reserve officers generally work as a second officer with a Regular but may work a two officer ROBERT car primarily as a backing unit and to handle alarm calls, transportation details, party calls etc.
Senior Reserve Officers are issued CCW Permits and there is a Reserve Retirement policy being developed at this time. The Simi Valley Reserve Police Officers Association (SVRPOA) provides security at several community events throughout the year and the proceeds from these events are used to purchase equipment, attend training and fund charitable events sponsored by the Association.
One of those annual events is the Simi Valley Thanksgiving Dinner held on the day before Thanksgiving which is free of charge to anyone who needs a place to have a home cooked traditional turkey dinner. We serve between 350 and 450 meals each year in the Simi Valley Senior Center.
